Work on the long awaited Partington regeneration program is expected to start shortly with creation of a ‘L shaped’ 17,000 sq ft shopping centre. The development is expected to take eight months to complete.

The shopping centre itself will comprise of nine units, with seven already pre-let to Tesco, Heron Frozen Food, a bakers shop, a bookmakers, a national charity shop, a newsagents and a fish and chip shop, with two units still available. The new centre will also provide 7,000 sq ft of flexible first-floor space accessed by a lift, and the first occupier upstairs will be a hairdresser. A new square accommodating market stalls will be constructed, along with a 126-space car park. Tesco and Heron Frozen Foods have taken two of the seven retails units at the centre.

Anchoring the project, Tesco and Heron Frozen Foods who have shown great commitment to Partington, enabling the whole scheme to proceed with a large household name.

Peel had originally expected to start on the project sooner, as planning permission was granted in 2008 but due to market conditions, have had to shelve the scheme until now. Peel has received finance, in the form of a loan of £100m from Greater Manchester Investment Fund to develop a new district centre.

The new development in the centre of Partington is part of the wider vision for the area, which includes the delivery of 550 family homes at Lock Lane and Hall Lane on the canal water front and the provision of a Green Loop providing a four mile recreation route circling the village.

What we think?

For a long time, Partington has suffered from a distinct lack of local facilities which has certainly not assisted with the sale and rental of property in the area. The creation of a vibrant new community shopping centre with improved amenities for the people of Partington will certain attract applicants back to the area and is sure to have an upward effect on property value in the surrounding area.

Partington has always been a popular area with first time buyers and buy to let investors and the enhanced infostructure is only going to further improve its attraction.
