Burton Place
Burton Place was the fourth building to be completed by Urban Splash during the comprehensive regeneration of Castlefield and was the second of their developments to be designed by Glenn Howells Architects. Completed in 2005, Burton Place has achieved a number of awards including a Housing Design award in 2003. The scheme follows Manchester planning guidance by minimising the number of one-bed apartments. Among the 90 apartments, all those with two or more beds have built-in study desks and a sliding partition allows the second bedroom in some to become a study next to the living room. Other features include hold-open doors so that daylight spreads through flats and dedicated recycling bins in the kitchens.
The Apartments
Among the 90 apartments in this development there are a range of one, two and three bedroom apartments which all have balconies and feature timber shutters which add a truly contemporary continental feel to the space. All apartments are fitted to a high specification including timber floors, fitted bathrooms and kitchens with appliances.
The ground floor at Burton Place is occupied by many offices. Across the road in Moho the ground floor space is occupied by a convenience store, two bar/restaurants and offices. This adds to the community created in Castlefield and offers great amenities for residents on their doorstep.
Location
Burton Place is just a ten minute walk to the city centre along the canal towpath. It has excellent transport links with Cornbrook Metrolink station situated further along the road, proximity to Deansgate station and direct access onto the Mancunian Way and further motorway network. Within a 5 minute walk along the Bridgewater Canal towpath are the waterside bars and restaurants of the Bridgewater Basin. The shops, Railway and Deansgate are about a 15 minute walk away.
